WW192: VOODOO CHILD, LEGO TRAILERS, and the skull key tool

HEY AGAIN!
It's Wonderful Wednesday!!!
Five more things that I want you to LOVE!!!!
Let's do it.......

1.) Let's start with art. I'm putting the ART in start......Tom Burckhardt created a cardboard full-scale replica of an artist's studio. Yup - all cardboard - and glue and black paint. True, "Full Stop" (cardboard studio) was created back in 2004 -- but it is new to me!!!

“This walk-through environment is full of the clutter and paraphernalia of the modern painter, toiling in romantic obscurity against the existential void. Except he/she doesn't seem to be succeeding. A basic lack of ideas has crippled production despite having all the right materials: tools, art supplies, art books, and postcards of the past masters' work at hand."

AH-MAH-ZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you believe it? I sure wish my studio looked that good!!!!!!
Make sure you check out what Tom Burckhardt has been up to lately!
(via Junkculture)

2.) Hey brunchers........here is something I COULD NOT WAIT to tell you about. Voodoo Child Coffee and Cocktail Bar is located at 388 College Street in Toronto (west of Spadina).

We have enjoyed brunch there before.....but last week was exceptionally YUMMERS......I give you
Lemon meringue pie French toast:
OH MAH GAWD!

Things you need to know.....it's a busy place, and it is tiny.......so be prepared...you may need to wait. Also, there is a very limited menu, and it seems to change......so check out the menu before you go! But what they serve is VERY good.....so good that I turned to husband after brunch to say "WOW, that French toast was amazing.....right?" -- until I realized that I did not even offer ONE BITE of my to him......mmmmmmmmmmmy bad.

Go there!!!!
And give them a little like on the Book of Faces!

3.) 12 of the best movie trailers ever created in Lego......A MUST see.....for example...

AND THIS FRAME BY FRMAE COMPARISON:

COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO GOOD!
(link via husband via empire online )

4.) Okay.....here are two things that I NEED for my keychain.......from Cool Material:
     The middle finger key....

I feel like it pretty well speaks for itself.......and the other thing I need for my keychain is:

"...a simple, key-shaped tools that attach to your key ring, so it's always at hand when you need them. This product's clever design incorporates each of the following functions: a file, a #2 flat-head screwdriver, a scoring point (great as a box cutter and for easily opening clamshell packages), a serrated edge (to saw through twine and clothing tags), and, finally, a bottle opener. Made of durable stainless steel."

COME ON!!!!!!! My birthday is in September, but YOU need one too!!!! ;-)

5.) I know I am late...but Happy Woman's Day........I give you this....

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pt1_VvVZVY -- if this didn't load for you!)

It made me laugh and laugh.......also go check out "Honest Trailers" and subscribe to Screen Junkies

1.) Okay, it in NO SECRET that lately I have been feeling a bit down, and I have been looking for laughs in my television schedge (schedule in hipster). Unfortunately, "The Big Bang Theory", "Mom" and "Looking" have all had dead parent sub-plots THIS MONTH......and let's face it, there are NOT a lot of laughs on "The Walking Dead"....that is why I thank the Lord for:

Broad City. Season two...is so G.D. good!!!!!!!!

Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson are brilliantly funny! You must must MUST watch this show. It is so offensive and wonderful!!!!!  Catch up by watching it on demand - or on MUCH!
Here's a sneak peak of the (almost over) second season:
Big laughs.....EXACTLY what I am looking for!
NOT FOR KIDS. Seriously, yo.

2.) Remember when you were a kid, and your folks would take you to the Marks and Spencer store in the mall, and you would think....um......this store is so boring (yes, a lot of that had to do with being a 7 year old in ANY store that didn't sell toys).....BUT THIS IS NOT YOUR MOMMA'S MARKS AND SPENCER! I give you these MUST HAVE socks from M&S (yes....that is the new name...hip...right?):
MUPPET SOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCKKKS!!
(that was a squeal of joy - I got a set for Xmas, and I cannot wear them enough!)
Thanks Mark and Jeff and Marks and Spencer.
Go order something from them now....free shipping to the Colony!
;-)

3.) Have you missed my reviews of pancakes? Have you? Well last week I had some yummy brunch at Cafè Fiorentina......

Yes.......it's small.....but the food was yummy....as were the sweet treats we took home!!! Try them for dinner or lunch or YUM YUM brunch!
 Here are more deets:

Check them out on
Twitter and Facebook too!

4.) ....and now for something ART-Y........Melissa Arendt has delightful work that brings a smile to my face. It is nicely designed and DRAWN and painted and such!!!!! Go and check her art out....here are a couple that grabbed my eyes.......

Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!
Check her site HERE...
Like her on the Book of Faces

5.) FINALLY........this is so great. I LOVE Conan, and I also love Billy Eichner.......here is why....

WW188: JULIE MADLY DEEPLY, WAFFLE TATERS, and JUST ONE JOB

Happy 'Wonderful Wednesday' to you!
So here are the 5 things that I think you should LOVE this week!!!

1.) This one is for my friends who love show tunes - like I love show tunes……
Julie, Madly, Deeply. I am so happy that I got to see this show!!! It was super fun!

If you like cabaret - if you like musicals - if you like those crazy Brits - most of all if you like Julie Andrews - THIS is the show for you!!!!
Yes, it is 105 minutes of delightful tribute to Julie - from her SUPER FAN Sarah-Louise Young!
SUPER TALENTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is how Mirvish describes the show:

Adored by millions, Dame Julie Andrews is a genuine legend of showbiz around the globe. This charming and cheeky musical show features songs from The Sound Of Music, My Fair Lady,Mary Poppins, Victor/Victoria and many more.

Julie’s incredible career is celebrated by a true super-fan: the award-winning singer, West End actress and international cabaret star Sarah-Louise Young, who has been named by Time Out as one of London’s Top Ten cabaret performers.

The brilliant songs are linked by stories and anecdotes about Andrews’ own life, from her beginnings as a child star to the recent challenges of losing her famous singing voice. What emerges is a delightfully funny and candid love letter to a true show business survivor.

Don’t miss the show’s North American premiere in this strictly limited engagement, direct from a sell-out West End season and UK tour. Singing along is not compulsory but few can resist!

Honestly, it was such a fun night out! Sarah-Louise Young was super funny.
So go get tickets…...BUT GET ON IT FAST!!!
There are only 3 dates left!
Thu Oct 16, 8PM
Sat Oct 18, 2PM
Sun Oct 19, 7PM
at Panasonic Theatre, 651 Yonge Street, Toronto

2.) This is for my peeps who like great architecture……or who love nature……or BOTH! Let's all go to Sydney, Australia and marvel at ‘One Central Park‘:

It is ‘the world’s tallest vertical garden’. It is designed by Jean Nouvel in collaboration with PTW architects. Now check out this cool cantilevered reflector installation with motorized infrared panels, designed to redirect sunlight to otherwise shaded areas of the plan. It also becomes a cool LED light at night!

I like that there is greenery on EVERY UNIT of this apartment building! The plants help reduce energy consumption with leaves that trap carbon dioxide, emit oxygen and reflect less heat back into the city than traditional fixed shading. BRILLIANT!!!!!!
SO LET'S GO!!!!!!

3.) A is for ADORABLE! Anna Kövecses, made this fantastic book for her four year old daughter!

“This book is the result of a very personal project aiming to introduce a little girl to the 44 letters of the Hungarian alphabet. Illustrations were carefully designed so that every subject that appears in this book is something she’s currently very much interested in. So in one way this book is not just a tool but also a diary documenting a four-year-old little girl’s world in the summer of 2013 on an island in the Mediterranean Sea…”

WOW! That is amazing. So sweet! But I also love these retro-y very graphic art pieces!

Anna self-published this book on Blurb.
So let's all learn the Hungarian alphabet and buy her delightful book!
(thanks to The Jealous Curator for finding this for US!)

4.) WHO'S HUNGRY?? Darn you Cheeky Kitchen on Tablespoon.com

JUST LOOK AT THIS REVELATION!!
Tater-tot waffles:

OMG!
MUST TRY THIS! (and tell Husband that I thought it up myself! ;-)
Remember to check out other great recipes on Tablespoon.com

5.) Thanks to Deb….I now have a favourite Twitter feed……..it is "you had one job" or @justonejob (as the kids say)….it chronicles the failures of people and the things they create as part of their jobs…….let me show you some recent tweets:

I LOVE THE CHINESE FLAG!

…...TOTALLY uncomfortable with this failure…...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Prime…..
Racists who hate juice….it is so unapPEALing
(get it - like pealing a fruit - for juice…)

WW174: HEATHERS, EARIN and GARFIELD WITHOUT GARFIELD

I know what you are thinking….
"ROB……HOW DO YOU HAVE TIME THIS WEEK to blog?"
(Yes…you're yelling!)
The truth is….I DO NOT……..I have two more sleeps until The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition..
In the meantime…..here is the fastest top 5 things I want YOU to enjoy this Wonderful Wednesday this week…..

1.) This is neat……..I love Gerry Judah's has huge sculpture for the Goodwood Festival of Speed! IT is super cool:

Installed 26 meters above the historic Goodwood House, the work features two mercedes-benz racing cars speeding past each other in midair, connected though a 90 meter steel arch. NEATO!

Here is what Design Boom says:
"Designed to commemorate 80 years since the world famous racing team started competing in their distinctive silver colorway, the two cars span decades of automotive history. plummeting towards the ground, the 1934 mercedes-benz W25 won at its first outing at the notorious nürburgring nordschleife, with manfred von brauchitsch behind the wheel. in the opposite direction, the current formula 1 team’s F1 W04 is installed – the vehicle which led nico rosberg to wins at both silverstone and monte carlo."

I don't know about any of that….I just know it looks cool!!!
(thanks to Design Boom for this one!)

2.) Ok…you know I am OBSESSED with brunch…….and more specifically with pancakes…..well…..now I am curious about this……
Jim Beam Pancake Syrup…I doubt it is potent enough to give you a buzz…..but still…..
"It’s infused with just enough Beam to give it a mild whiskey flavour."
Deelish?
You decide!!!

3.) If you have ever take the TTC you will be interested with this. Instead of engaging with the human soup…….there are these:
Earin Wireless Earbuds!!!!! Here is the deal….

"Earin earbuds are two independent buds that are small and stealth because unlike bulkier buds they don’t have a microphone or a light or sensors. Instead they use unique, compact driver technology and feature a case that doubles as the recharging unit."
(see the video here if it doesn't load!)
I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED THESE!!!

4.) Ok musical lovers……there is THIS:

OH
MAH
GAWD!!!
Am I right????
One of my favourite movies from the 80's……in musical form!
If you don't remember the movie….go back and give it a look…..
NOW IMAGINE IT WITH MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-)
Mean girls…..murder…….and music?? I'm IN!!!!

5.) Thanks to my nieces, I got a very enjoyable laugh this weekend……PICTURE THIS…..It's a world where there is NO Garfield in the Garfield comics, and as such, Jon Arbuckle turns to a life of depression and eventual insanity! I give you……"Garfield Minus Garfield":

SEE???? JON HAS LOST IT!!!!! Need further proof?

Please go to "Garfield Minus Garfield" for more!!
(and thanks Becca and Rachel!)

WW162: RIPLEY'S AQUARIUM, UNION72 and TETRUS!!!

Here are the 5 things that I love this week.

1.) The Ripley's Aquarium. WOW……..I was impressed!!! We are talking 135,000-square-feet of family fun!!!

Yes….with over 1.5 million gallons of marine and freshwater habitats from across the world….we are talking more than 13,500 exotic sea and freshwater creatures!

I especially LOVED the jellyfish tank!
I MEAN LOVED!!!!
I loved this 315-foot moving walkway through an acrylic tunnel deep below the 750,000-gallon "Shark Lagoon".

Ah-MAH- zing!!!

2.) COME ON!!! This is super fun!

To celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary of tetris, drexel university professor frank lee and his team hacked the lighting system of cira centre – a 29-story glass-encased skyscraper in philadelphia – to play the classic arcade game on the building’s facade. using the north side and the south side of the tower, competitors played a version of the game, in which rows of blocks are added to the opponent’s screen when players eliminated them on their side. joysticks were connected to a computer to transmit the data via a 4G network inside the cira centre. the signals translated the commands to the building’s external LED lighting system, which create images on the facade.
Check out this:

3.) Union72 Restaurant. We went for brunch this last weekend…..it WAS YUMMERS!!!

I had an INCREDIBLE burger (yes - i know - weird for me - I am usually a pancake guy…..BUT…it was DEEEEEEEEELISH!)
And one of my friends had this…….
The Swiss Train Ride (Croque Madame with ham, gruyere, fried egg& béchamel…..with salad and potato rosti! WOW!

The food deelish…..really yummy…..just be prepared…..as it is at 72 Ossington Ave (just north of queen st) it is also full of this……

so if you can handle the irony - the plaid shirts - the beardy-ness and woollen skull caps….aka the general hipster vibe…..you will find it all worth while!!!

4.) This is for amy environmental warriors………Thomas Yang, created this AWESOME PRINT……… it is made from 7 different types of bicycle tire tracks! You could have bought it at 100 Copies…..which is an art studio that produces original cycling-inspired prints that are limited to, as the name suggests, 100 copies.

5.) Oh Jimmy……..you are fantastic!!! See this link if the video doesn't show up:
