WW200: AND THEN THERE WERE THREE....

WOW!
So there are 200 times that I have 'extolled the virtue' of other people's cool stuff!
I have complained again and again about the HOURS of work each post consumes.......THAT is why I kinda stopped doing this post........which is kinda sad. So I think to make it easier - and to encourage more frequent posting - I am gonna could choose 1-5 things - INSTEAD of always having 5 different things each week!
So in that spirit, there are THREE things that I LOVE LOVE LOVE this week!

1.) KEYWAY.......HOLY CRAP!!!!! These are incredible cases....I cannot pick which one is the best!

Here is what they say......

Keyway Designs was born out of passion for elegant design, skilled crafting, and artistic simplicity. We built a partnership and put our complementary skills in art, design, manufacturing, and engineering to work. Our interests were quickly drawn to the stunning design of the iPhone product line. While clean, elegant and simple, we view the smooth, flat back design of the iPhone 4 and 5 as the perfect canvas. Indeed, we could paste vinyl stickers on it, or wrap silicon shells around the phone but why not try something a little different? We decided on a material that allows the customer to express them-self in a unique way, while keeping their phone safe.

We began brainstorming and explored some of the possible materials that could be used to uphold the iPhone’s original elegance while improving on customization and durability. Due to the wide variety of available wood species, it seemed to be an obvious starting point. Wood also has the inherent ability to provide individuality due to the unique grain of each sample.

Keyway Designs was formed in early 2012 in Toronto, Ontario. We are proud to say that our manufacturing is done in-house. This allows us to maintain the high level of quality and accuracy that we demand. Our production goals for Keyway don't stop at iPhone accessories; we have big plans for our future, so be sure to keep an eye on us!

FANTASTIC STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2.) Hey nerds.....what about this office building in China that looks like a certain starship........

The building forms the headquarters of game developers netdragon. The 260 meter length office structure took four years to construct, with American TV station CBS sanctioning the rights for the Chinese company to model their office after the USS enterprise ncc-1701-e.
Check out this drones eye view:

CRAY!!!!!

3.) FINALLY - I give you (Thanks to Cindy for this one) WHINE ABOUT IT.

WW176: MASTERS OF SEX, DAVID JABLOW and CLOCKONE

Here are the 5 things that I love this week!!! I want you to really love them too!!

1.) Masters of Sex. Ok….I KNOW I KNOW…..I am WAY FAR BEHIND ON THIS!! But wow!
You gotta watch this show!

Thanks Showtime! Yes…this is the sex-centric version of Mad Men. Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan star as the lead characters, Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson, two pioneering researchers of human sexuality at Washington University - who go on to revolutionize how we think about sex!
AMAZING! Beau Bridges and Allison Janney just knock your socks off!! WOW!!!
If you haven't seen it.
DO! NOOOOOOOWWWW!!!!!
If you have (like most other people I know) just ignore that it took me so long to get into it!
Here's a clip from season one:

I even love the beginning credits….very cute!
Go watch it. Not for the smut………for the acting….and the scenery……\
FINE…AND THE NUDITY!!!
;-)

2.) This guys work is super! David Jablow is an artist/illustrator that can turn something like this…

3.) It's summer….have I mentioned that?? Here is how you could celebrate:
YUMMMM.
(and then imagine these WITH VODKA!!!!)

4.) I need this. I really do. ‘Clockone’ by twelve24 is a four millimeter thin, meter-long wall clock that uses high contrast E-ink technology to display time!

It is powered by a single coin-cell battery and runs for an average of a year! It weighs less than two kilograms. This lightweight timepiece can also be hung using a simple magnetic mounting system and tilts to automatically level itself.

"Clockone" will be available september 2014, and can be pre-ordered here.

WW174: HEATHERS, EARIN and GARFIELD WITHOUT GARFIELD

I know what you are thinking….
"ROB……HOW DO YOU HAVE TIME THIS WEEK to blog?"
(Yes…you're yelling!)
The truth is….I DO NOT……..I have two more sleeps until The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition..
In the meantime…..here is the fastest top 5 things I want YOU to enjoy this Wonderful Wednesday this week…..

1.) This is neat……..I love Gerry Judah's has huge sculpture for the Goodwood Festival of Speed! IT is super cool:

Installed 26 meters above the historic Goodwood House, the work features two mercedes-benz racing cars speeding past each other in midair, connected though a 90 meter steel arch. NEATO!

Here is what Design Boom says:
"Designed to commemorate 80 years since the world famous racing team started competing in their distinctive silver colorway, the two cars span decades of automotive history. plummeting towards the ground, the 1934 mercedes-benz W25 won at its first outing at the notorious nürburgring nordschleife, with manfred von brauchitsch behind the wheel. in the opposite direction, the current formula 1 team’s F1 W04 is installed – the vehicle which led nico rosberg to wins at both silverstone and monte carlo."

I don't know about any of that….I just know it looks cool!!!
(thanks to Design Boom for this one!)

2.) Ok…you know I am OBSESSED with brunch…….and more specifically with pancakes…..well…..now I am curious about this……
Jim Beam Pancake Syrup…I doubt it is potent enough to give you a buzz…..but still…..
"It’s infused with just enough Beam to give it a mild whiskey flavour."
Deelish?
You decide!!!

3.) If you have ever take the TTC you will be interested with this. Instead of engaging with the human soup…….there are these:
Earin Wireless Earbuds!!!!! Here is the deal….

"Earin earbuds are two independent buds that are small and stealth because unlike bulkier buds they don’t have a microphone or a light or sensors. Instead they use unique, compact driver technology and feature a case that doubles as the recharging unit."
(see the video here if it doesn't load!)
I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED THESE!!!

4.) Ok musical lovers……there is THIS:

OH
MAH
GAWD!!!
Am I right????
One of my favourite movies from the 80's……in musical form!
If you don't remember the movie….go back and give it a look…..
NOW IMAGINE IT WITH MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-)
Mean girls…..murder…….and music?? I'm IN!!!!

5.) Thanks to my nieces, I got a very enjoyable laugh this weekend……PICTURE THIS…..It's a world where there is NO Garfield in the Garfield comics, and as such, Jon Arbuckle turns to a life of depression and eventual insanity! I give you……"Garfield Minus Garfield":

SEE???? JON HAS LOST IT!!!!! Need further proof?

Please go to "Garfield Minus Garfield" for more!!

WW148:BORDALO SEGUNDO, CHURROS, AND THE DAPPER GENTLEMAN!

1.) This mural is GREAT! Street artist Bordalo Segundo is super talented just look at this new mixed media mural installation titled "Arara Do Bosque De Telheiras".  He uses garbage and found objects combined with vibrant colours! WOW!

Find out more about Bordalo II here.
(thanks to Street Art News)

2.) This watch….I NEEEEEEEEED it.  Mr. Jones makes good watches!!!!

Mr Jones says:

"The hands on this watch are in the form of two circles, one circle is labelled "what I want" and the other "what I need". As the circles move to mark the time, they form a Venn diagram. The shifting relationship that the diagram depicts between "wants" and "needs" is a way for us to think about the changing nature of our own desires and their fulfilment.
The watch is a tool for questioning ourselves - how does the diagram reflect the relationship between our own wants and needs at any given time?

wants vs needs comes in two sizes: a smaller ladies-specific case as well as this larger unisex size. This watch is produced in an edition of 100 pieces, with each watch individually numbered on the case back. The watch comes in a MJW presentation box, with specially commissioned design by artist and illustrator Camilla Meijer."

COME ON!!!! I LOVE IT!

3.) OK…speaking of things I MUST HAVE…...This seems like a MUST have. Am I right??? The Electric Churros Maker by Nostalgia Electrics.

¡Ay, caramba!

1.) This is a cool art installation. Michael shvo and paul kasmin gallery turned a gas station in New York City into a sculptural sheep pasture!!!!

This installation debuted to the public yesterday, 'sheep station' is a pop-up, surrealist landscape which sets dozens of sculpted farm animals fixed amongst gas pumps and fire extinguishers in a grass-filled getty station.

25 of late french artist françois-xavier lalanne's epoxy stone and bronze sheep sculptures graze within the white picket fence bound rolling lawn. the installation showcases the largest flock ever shown together of lalanne' iconic 'moutons'. the station will be host to a new public art program in the center of the high line arts district and will showcase rotating exhibitions as a temporary art space.

I LOVE IT!!!

WW125: XU BING, HUD and BAAACON!!!!

Hello all!
Welcome to anyone new that is discovering me from the TOAE!
This is my weekly Wonderful Wednesday post.
In this post, I pick 5 things that I LOVE and share them with you!
I try to make it interesting and make it not ALL art related.....
So less chit-chat, let's get to it!

1.) The first thing is usually someone else's work that I admire/envy. Like this.....

Straight from China......via Massachusetts ....artist Xu Bing spent two years creating his newest work titled "Phoenix". Currently on exhibit at MassMoCA, this AH-MAH-ZING installation features two massive birds made from materials harvested from construction sites in urban China!

I LOVE IT! It has lots of great debris.....including demolition debris, steel beams, tools, and remnants of the daily lives of migrant laborers.

The official press release says: "At once fierce and strangely beautiful, the mythic Phoenixes bear witness to the complex interconnection between labor, history, commercial development, and the rapid accumulation of wealth in today's China."

Find out more about Xu Bing's work here.

2.) Ok.....for all you tech-geeks out there.........I give you this! (thanks Warren)
HUD (Head up Display) from Garmin! It is new and is super cool.....you just apply the transparent film on your windshield,  place it on your dash and pair it wirelessly with your smartphone. Now you can see WITHOUT looking down to your device and nearly killing a pedestrian!!!! HUZZAH!!! All those saved lives for only $130.00!

LOVE IT!

3.) If you know me.....you know I LOOOOVE my NYC. Well, here is a little project I really think is great!!

The Architectural League of New York partnered with Pen World Voices Festival to bring Little Free Library to New York City. Stereotank founded by Venezuelan architects Marcelo Ertorteguy and Sara Valente was selected to create an 'inhabitable' free library where users could immerse themselves and take the time to browse through books and borrow or exchange them.

The structure is built out of an upside down plastic tank and a wooden frame. Perforations around the tank allow visitors to peek inside and preview the interior, which invites them to duck under and discover the book collection while still having a connection with the exterior.

The installation is planned to be active until September 2013 at St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral School in Nolita. Find out more about the project here.

4.) Usually I like to discuss some FABULOUS FOOD, SUPER COOL new music, or a great TV show/film that I have discovered......alas.....this last week has been full of getting ready/doing the TOAE.....so I haven't had a chance to actually LIVE.......but in the near future I really hope to do this.....

Yup. A tour of Toronto....starring PORK!!!A few hours touring the city sampling yummy porky things!!!!!!!! Thanks to TourGuys.ca!!!

Not convinced????

How about now??
Read more about it HERE - thanks to The Torontoist!!

5.) Finally, this made me LAUGH....and I ALWAYS end with a laugh.........(please note this is NOT suitable for young children! In fact it may be downright offensive to some!! :-)
(thanks Cindy for this one)
