WELCOME!!
It's Wonderful Wednesday!
So here are the 5 things I want you to love this week:

1.) Paper. I love when an artist can turn paper into magic. Like these from artist Bovey Lee.…..
Layered freeways, power lines, rebar & steel bridges & high rises..…that create delicate and beautiful flowers here:

2.) Dear Jonathan Adler,  WHYYYYYYYYY???????

I NEEEEEED these ceramic containers SOOOO BAD!!!!!

My birthday is coming up…….a set of 5 of these would be perfect.
NO LESS THAN 3!
:-)
Get them on Jon-Jon's website.
(thanks Deb!!!)

3.) OH MY GAWD. This. THIS PEOPLE!!! Thomas Leveritt ‘How the Sun Sees You’……

He set up a special camera and monitor that was able capture an image in ultraviolet and relay it back to a viewer in real-time. UV lighting allows those within in its scope to perceive, beyond the range of the human eye, not-yet-visible changes, and otherwise unseen parts of the skin.

Leveritt asked passers-by to take a look at the screen and check out the changes in their faces! These poor people then saw faces full of freckles, scars and sun spots  - AKA sun damage where they might not typically apply sunscreen!!!

Follow his tweets at:  twitter.com/thomasleveritt
(if you can't see the video go HERE!)
See his whole site at  Thomas Leveritt
Now go put some sunscreen on already, would ya??

4.) Grilled Peaches and Pound Cake….Ok…..so this last weekend I made a yummy desert.
EASY PEASY!

Because I am lazy and challenged in the kitchen, I just bbq'd my peaches (with a tiny bit of sugar on them) and bought a poundcake to grill with it…adding a bit of low fat whip cream on top!

But you should go whole hog and follow this recipe by

Bryan Calvert, chef and co-owner of James in Brooklyn, New York, loves the versatility of his supermoist lemon pound cake: He uses it to make everything from French toast to a stuffing for baked apples. At this time of year, he grills it until crisp and toasty, then tops it with warm, tender grilled peaches and whipped cream.

Get the whole recipe here:

MMMMMM!

5.) I leave you with these images from Funny or Die:

See more HERE -- and have a great week!!!!!!

WW172: RIVERDALE FARM AID, 99% INVISIBLE, and One Take Movies

Welcome to Wonderful Wednesday!!!
Here are the 5 things I want you to love this week……

1.) Riverdale Farm. Ok….as many of you know, I am only one generation away from the farm. My relatives still run the family farm in Port Burwell, Ontario. So somewhere in me there is a farm boy just waiting to be get out!! (ok…maybe WAAAAAY deep - but still) That is partly why I love Riverdale Farm!

Riverdale Farm is a 7.4-acre municipally operated farm in the heart of Cabbagetown, Toronto. From 1888 to 1974, it was the site of the Riverdale Zoo (which in 1974 relocated to become the Toronto Zoo).  In 1978 the farm was reborn! Nowadays….the farm is open to the public all year-round. It specializes in pioneer breeds of farm animals that are hard to find on commercial farms. It is an example of a typical Ontario farm from between 1880 and 1920. 'sAnimals at the farm include poultry, waterfowl, goats, sheep, pigs, cows, donkeys, and horses.
There is a TONNE of great programming and I really believe that it is VITAL for kids who grow up in big cities to UNDERSTAND why farming is important.

Riverdale farm's funding (like many important Toronto attractions) came very close to being cut by the current mayor of Toronto last year! But thankfully was saved at the last moment….in no small part, thanks to the Riverdale Farm Stewardship Group. One event that I am pleased to be associated with that helps raise funds for the farm is:

Yes…I did this poster….a version of which will be sold to raise $$ for the farm!

The RFSG will work closely with the local Ward Councillor, City staff and Riverdale Farms’ numerous stakeholders, partners, and members of the general public to create new and vibrant partnerships that inform, educate and increase public awareness of the role farms have played and continue to play in our lives, now and for future generations.

The goal of the RFSG is to secure a stable and sustainable funding base to offset the operating costs of Riverdale Farm and ensure existing service levels are maintained or enhanced while remaining accessible to the public.

Come out this week (tomorrow) and help support this awesome cause!!! Here is what you will enjoy for only $10!!

More info at RIVERDALE FARM AID.COM
Great GREAT GGGRRREEEAAAT and worthy cause!

2.)  I got this from someone on Facebook…but I am already implementing like 5 of these tips in my life…..It's REdick! (that is hipster talk for ridiculous!) 50 Life  Hacks to Simplfy your World….check it out!!!

I like these ones…

BUT THERE ARE LOTS MORE…

3.) 99% INVISIBLE. OH MY GOSH I LOVE THIS PODCAST!!!! Honestly….this is really an outstanding podcast…..
What's it about??

99% Invisible is a tiny radio show about design, architecture & the 99% invisible activity that shapes our world. The show started life as a project of KALW public radio in San Francisco and the American Institute of Architects in San Francisco. We are distributed by PRX on PRX Remix and public radio stations around the country.

We are a completely independent production and raise all of our funds directly from the listeners, most notably from our record breaking Kickstarter campaign, and from podcast underwriters.

"99% Invisible…is completely wonderful and entertaining and beautifully produced…”
-Ira Glass, This American Life

I really cannot say enough about this show…so freaking interesting!!!!!!
And for those of you who have little time…..each "episode" is less than 30 minutes of BLISS!!
Go to their SITE HERE….
or go to iTunes!
(thanks to Deb for this one!)

4.) ok….nerds and design freaks…..I give you the Inception Dishrack…….THIS IS STUNNING….it almost makes me want to clean dishes….with my hands……like a pioneer……

Inspired by the movie of the same name, designer Luca Nichetto has created this SPECTACULAR silicone tabletop dish rack (or desk organizer).

5.) ok…not sure if this is as funny as most of my #5's…..but I WAS AMAZED BY THIS…

WW169: TONYA CORKEY, RUPAUL, and EX-MEN

Hey guys! Here are the 5 things that I LOVE this week!
Welcome to "Wonderful Wednesday"!
(A special welcome to all my new friends reading this for the first time!)

1.) Hey art lovers…..fellow Toronto-based artist Tonya Corkey creates super cool portraits with ordinary lint collected from clothes dryers. Um……AWESOME!!!!!!!

“My work hybridizes the discarded material of lint with the second hand image – the iconic school photograph – to conceptualize my interests. Materiality conceptually layers the work. As a byproduct of society, lint consists of fibers, hair, dead skin and other debris, and thus directly referencing people and their daily activity. Lint and cast off photographs are both discarded materials – materials that reflect the idea of a decaying memory."

Find out more about Tonya Corkey's work here. Because it is ah-maze-ing!

2.) Ok gays and ladies THIS one is enjoyable. Is it fluffy and silly? YES. "RuPaul What's the Tee? with Michelle Visage"
This is a new podcast, and I really enjoy it. It is quite funny, and these two fierce ladies chat about a bevy of topics - from juicing and health to nail art and music…..from meditation to facelifts!
It is helping to bring out my inner sis-tah.
I mean that in the most wonderful and respectful way!
Check it out. SUPER FUN!!!!!

3.) THESE…...I NEEEEEED these. As many of y'all know, I have an obsession with a coloured show. Well check this out………Adidas already has options for customizing your shoes….CHECK THIS OUT….but wait…….come August, the Adidas ZX Flux is about to become INCREDIBLY customized!!! BY YOU!!!!!  The new mobile phone app will allow users, to easily apply any photographic image, texture or artwork to the shoe!

OH
MAH
GAWD
You KNOW I am gonna create my own Adidas ZX Flux Photo Print shoe based on my work! And then they will deliver them right to my door!!
I can hardly wait!

4.) These are neat. Porcelain masters Rosenthal presents ‘TAC big cities’ tableware designed by BIG architects and KILO. This stunning dish ware depicts the silhouette of various world city skylines such as London, New York, Paris, Toronto!
LOVELY!!

So simple and classy!
The skylines are outlined in heritage blue on a surface of white porcelain.
Very very nice!!!

5.) This may seem long…..but stick with it…3 minutes in it is EXTRA funny!
It amused me…..especially after having seen the new X-men film this week…….

(here is a link!)
Hey…...and also check out The Pete Holmes Show! VERY FUNNY!

WW165: GLAD DAY, FARGO and THE SKULL SPOON!

Hey all! Here are the 5 things I want you love this week………

1.) Again…..I am not a HUGE bird lover……but these art pieces really make me want to change my mind…….Artist Juan Fontanive's pieces are REMARKABLE!
-4-COLOR SCREEN PRINT ON BRISTOL PAPER, STAINLESS STEEL, MOTOR AND ELECTRONICS. 20 X 21 X 3.7 IN. 2014

Still don't get it??? WATCH THIS and have your mind blown! ;-)

(if that didn't work - see the AWESOME videos HERE)
COME ON!!!!
(via Colossal)

2.) Fargo! Well…it's everything you might expect……this dark comedy-crime drama series created by Noah Hawley is based on the 1996 film of the same name written and directed by the Coen brothers. And it is Coen brothers worthy re-dux!

This story (just like the movie -- almost 20 years ago) chronicles the stories of "regular people" that spin violently out of control in a frozen small-town in Minnesota! If you like dark humour, subtle menace, and bursts of violence -- then this quirky, slow unravelling show is for you! Need another reason to watch?? How about the cast, which includes Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Colin Hanks, Bob Odenkirk, Kate Walsh, Adam Goldberg, Oliver Platt , Key & Peele, Keith Carradine…etc……
CRAZY GOOD! Here's a clip:

3.) Glad Day Bookstore. Ok folks, this is a great story! In a world where it seems like big conglomerate companies own everything, and books become more like antiques…..the gay community can STILL come together for something good…….and I am GLAD!

Opened in 1970, Glad Day was the Toronto (and Canada's) first bookstore targeted to the gay community….and moved to its current location in 1981. It is NOW the oldest surviving LGBT bookstore in North America.

In 2011 the store went up for sale due to declining revenues but was ultimately rescued by a collective of 22 community members! Under its current ownership, the store is revitalizing its role as a cultural hub, with an event space to host author readings, performances and community group meetings! My first visit to Glad Day was in 1994 (the year I moved to Toronto) and I was overwhelmed by the 3000+ titles!! It was a very important part of my induction to the Toronto gay 'scene'…..and it is still vital to our community!!!

You can find their online store at Glad-day-bookshop.myshopify.com
Let's support them!!!!!!!!

4.) I LOVE THIS! The Sugar Skull Spoon………yes…….I want a whole set of them! (Don't you Deb? ;-)
Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign last year, UK design studio Hundred Million has now brought the Sugar Skull Spoon to YOU….(or maybe ME???)

These special stainless steel teaspoons are also available to purchase at The Foodiggity Shop!

5.) This. Jimmy. Emma. NOW!

W115: MONSTER EARTH, VICTORIA CRAYHON, and WEIRD AL!

Here are 5 WONDERFUL things that I wanna share this week with you:

1.) Ok.. you know I love a little Pixar...but I especially like this one.....They turn Epcot's "Spaceship Earth" into a big monster.......you know the iconic building that looks like this:

Well...here it is dressed in it's monstrous best:

2.) SADLY, I haven't been out to eat - or tired a new recipe lately - so I give you this...kinda food/drink related thing:
Super cool espresso cups from FRED AND FRIENDS!!!

"You're out of bed, suited up, and cleared for take-off. It's time to bring on the caffeine! Our Blast Off espresso cups are ready to lift you into orbit. Crafted from fine quality porcelain, each holds two and a half ounces of rocket fuel. You get two finely cast, dish-washer-safe white cups in each colorful giftbox."

3.)Victoria Crayhon photography......I LOVE these........ She did some clever and interesting text related interventions on roadside marquee signs. She uses her own sign letters, installing them while filming the placing of the phrases and then leaving the scene with words left intact upon the sign!! FANTASTIC!! I LOVE THEM!!!

Victoria says: "The text phrases are the voice of an individual, deliberately personal yet sounding mysteriously familiar through the fragmented vernacular used within the spectacle of advertising." she says "I use language that references aspirations toward contentment and fulfillment linked to promises of desire and romance provided by the realm of commodity and entertainment."

See  A LOT more on her website!!!!

(Thanks to Featureshoot.com and Junk Culture)

4.) Ok...so you know (if you are regul;ar reader - that I have been LOVING The 'Comedy Bang Bang' Podcast...well the comdey nerds on this show have re-introduced me to an ovelooked comedy talent. Mr. Weird Al Jankovic! He is really kinds clever. Yes...a lot of poop and fart jokes.....but still kinfa smart...here are 3 songs I enjoyed:

Perform this Way (which is SUUUUUPER CREEPY!!!)

Polka Face (catchy - not a parody as much)
This one I like too...."Still Billy Joel to Me"
"Just a handclap, finger snap
Even if it's mindless crap
It's still Billy Joel to me!"(that's kinda funny, c'mon!!!!!!)

5.) Photo bombs....you all know about these (if you don't - REALLY??? It's when you ruin someone else's photo by hiding in the background).....here are a few that you may not have seen...
