WW174: HEATHERS, EARIN and GARFIELD WITHOUT GARFIELD

I know what you are thinking….
"ROB……HOW DO YOU HAVE TIME THIS WEEK to blog?"
(Yes…you're yelling!)
The truth is….I DO NOT……..I have two more sleeps until The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition..
In the meantime…..here is the fastest top 5 things I want YOU to enjoy this Wonderful Wednesday this week…..

1.) This is neat……..I love Gerry Judah's has huge sculpture for the Goodwood Festival of Speed! IT is super cool:

Installed 26 meters above the historic Goodwood House, the work features two mercedes-benz racing cars speeding past each other in midair, connected though a 90 meter steel arch. NEATO!

Here is what Design Boom says:
"Designed to commemorate 80 years since the world famous racing team started competing in their distinctive silver colorway, the two cars span decades of automotive history. plummeting towards the ground, the 1934 mercedes-benz W25 won at its first outing at the notorious nürburgring nordschleife, with manfred von brauchitsch behind the wheel. in the opposite direction, the current formula 1 team’s F1 W04 is installed – the vehicle which led nico rosberg to wins at both silverstone and monte carlo."

I don't know about any of that….I just know it looks cool!!!
(thanks to Design Boom for this one!)

2.) Ok…you know I am OBSESSED with brunch…….and more specifically with pancakes…..well…..now I am curious about this……
Jim Beam Pancake Syrup…I doubt it is potent enough to give you a buzz…..but still…..
"It’s infused with just enough Beam to give it a mild whiskey flavour."
Deelish?
You decide!!!

3.) If you have ever take the TTC you will be interested with this. Instead of engaging with the human soup…….there are these:
Earin Wireless Earbuds!!!!! Here is the deal….

"Earin earbuds are two independent buds that are small and stealth because unlike bulkier buds they don’t have a microphone or a light or sensors. Instead they use unique, compact driver technology and feature a case that doubles as the recharging unit."
(see the video here if it doesn't load!)
I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED THESE!!!

4.) Ok musical lovers……there is THIS:

OH
MAH
GAWD!!!
Am I right????
One of my favourite movies from the 80's……in musical form!
If you don't remember the movie….go back and give it a look…..
NOW IMAGINE IT WITH MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-)
Mean girls…..murder…….and music?? I'm IN!!!!

5.) Thanks to my nieces, I got a very enjoyable laugh this weekend……PICTURE THIS…..It's a world where there is NO Garfield in the Garfield comics, and as such, Jon Arbuckle turns to a life of depression and eventual insanity! I give you……"Garfield Minus Garfield":

SEE???? JON HAS LOST IT!!!!! Need further proof?

Please go to "Garfield Minus Garfield" for more!!
(and thanks Becca and Rachel!)

WW166: SILICON VALLEY, BIBLIO-MAT and DREAM CARS!

5 things I want you to like this week…………

1.) Silicon Valley is a very enjoyable new TV show on HBO (pronounced Hobo).  It's not just for nerdy types……..it is a really great underdog story!

The story centers on six programmers who are living together and trying to make it big in Silicon Valley. It has a cast of people I didn't know….as well as Kumail Nanjiani and TJ Miller two comedy guys that I already enjoy from my podcast listening……oh…and did I mention….it was created my Mike Judge……..very amusing…here's a clip:

(or see it HERE!)

2.) Hey all you Toronto book lovers…..and lovers of vintage looking  things…..CHECK THIS OUT….
The Biblio-mat is an invention of The Monkey's Paw right her win Toronto! It is the first device of its kind, allowing curious bibliophiles to sample the excitement and mystery of antiquarian-book hunting for the cost of a single $2 coin. The Biblio-Mat was designed and constructed for the Monkey's Paw by animator Craig Small.

The BIBLIO-MAT from Craig Small on Vimeo.

(here is a link if that did not work!)
(Thanks Cindy!)

3.) Ok…..THIS…..can we go to this???? The High Museum of Art in Atlanta is presenting a new show….. "Dream cars: innovative design, visionary ideas" starting on the 21st and running through Sept. 7th 2014!

It's not that I am a big car guy……BUT THESE….WOWSA!!!

 Here is the description:

"17 concept cars from europe and the united states, on view for a major exhibition spotlighting innovation in automotive design. ‘dream cars’ will feature some of the rarest, most imaginative vehicles by ferrari, bugatti, general motors and porsche, from as early as 1930s up to the 21st century. the chosen four-wheelers are renowned for their super-sleek design aesthetics and progressive engineering, which pushed the limits of ingenuity, creativity and foreshadowed developments in the industry. the exhibition will pair concept drawings and scale models alongside realized cars, illustrating the ways in which their exploratory visualizations have changed the automobile from an object of function to a symbol of the future."

I WANT TO GO TO THERE!!!
See more HERE!
(via DesignBoom)

4.) Neato.  US based artist Pei-San Ng creates these gorgeous pieces from vintage matches…..

I like them….although I DO worry about setting my home on fire…….but then again….for the sake of art……maybe…...

5.) This is kinda funny……Thank you Jimmy…….Sally - you just KNEW she would win a swear off!!!!

WW94: THE BIRDS AND THE BEES - REVISED!!!!!

IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK!!!!
Truthfully, I am NOT the person to ask for the "real" birds and the bees!
So instead, I give you these items!
5 (or so) things that I LOVE this week!!!!!

1.) Ok...if you have been under a rock, and haven't downloaded my latest obsession, you are missing out!!! Angry Birds: Star Wars!! If you are looking to waste your time, look no further!!

ok....and speaking of angry birds......sometimes a great game can influence an artist. Angry Birds All Levels is a 300-sheet ink on tracing paper design by interaction designer Evan Roth that displays every finger swipe and screen press needed to complete the popularAngry Birds video game on a handheld device. It was commissioned by the Science Gallery located in Dublin, Ireland and is on display in their Game Exhibits. "Angry Birds All Levels is a part of Evan’s larger Multi-Touch Finger Paintings project that he has been working on throughout the years.

2.) Buffalo Chicken Garbage Bread. Yes, it has the word garbage in the title....shameful......but.....

Ingredients
2 boneless chicken breasts
1 tsp. olive oil
1 pizza dough (I used store bought and let it sit out for about 20 minutes)
(I might try with crescent roll dough....)
8 oz. of shredded mozzarella cheese
3 oz. of shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup of Franks Wing Sauce
1/3 cup of blue cheese dressing

Directions
- Cut chicken into cubes. Season with salt and pepper. Heat teaspoon of olive oil in skillet and add chicken when hot. Cook chicken completely and then add 1/4 cup of wing sauce. Stir to coat chicken and let simmer for a minute or two. Take chicken off heat and let cool.
- Pre-heat oven to 425°F.
-On a well floured surface, spread pizza dough into a long rectangle shape. (or you could use crescent rolls!!!)
-Add blue cheese dressing and remaining 1/4 cup of wing sauce. Spread across the dough. Add chicken and then top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese. You can also add a bit more of the wing sauce on top of the cheese if you want it to be a little bit spicier.

Roll the dough like a pinwheel until you reach the end. Make sure to tuck the ends of the dough in so the middle doesn’t ‘ooze’ out when baking.

Spray baking sheet with light coat of non-stick cooking spray. Place garbage bread on the pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

Let sit for five minutes and cut into and enjoy!

3.) I love this bird-like Smartcar! SMART has colllaborated with fashion designer Jeremy Scott to conceive a limited edition electrified 'fortwo'. equipped with wings that illuminate like igniting rockets to form avant-garde rear taillights! You may not Jeremy by name....but you might know his work! He dressed Britney Spears as a futuristic airline stewardess for her Toxic video. He is also the first fashion designer to dress the muppet diva Miss Piggy, who called him her favorite designer, as have Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga.

Here is what he says about the design:
'for me, wings mean freedom, a sense of weightlessness. because of this, I definitely wanted to have them for the 'smart electric drive' in order to convey the way it frees the environment of noxious emissions and symbolises the new lightness of mobility' -- Jeremy Scott

4.) I want to go to there. I mean HERE: Jean Jullien has helped to create an amazing bar called Le Nid, “The Nest”, which overlooks the city of Nantes at the top of the Tour de Bretagne. It is designed as though it’s a nest!! The bar is shaped like the body of a bird, while it’s long necks circles and wraps around the space, eventually ending at the birds head. Around the space are dozens of cracked egg chairs for sitting or resting your drinks on!!!

AWESOME!!!!!! N'est pas??
Here is a little video from JJ:

OH CRAP!!!
I didn't publush this with the last #5!!!

SORRY!!!
So this was the bees part!! Now this post will make sense!

5.) This is funny:

WW82: PAC MAN, WBK, AND COMEDY IN CARS!

Howdy ho all!
Currently I am in a ragweed induced stupor. Those of you who are allergy suffers KNOW my pain....
So I am gonna just get right to it.
5 things I LOVE this week:
(this one is really technology based today....aka - super geek-y)
ENJOY:

1.) FULL ROOM PAC MAN!!!! Japanese game director Keita Takahashi, has conceived the '3D pacman room' - an immersive, playable projection of the awesome 80's video game. Mr Pac, as I like to call him, fills an entire room...eating little pellets all the while being chased (and/or chasing) by spooky multi-coloured (and/or dark coloured) ghosts in a full 360° environment. The installation was shown at new york's museum of art and design's as part of the babycastles summit 2012.

F - U - N! I am gonna do this to my media room!!

Who's in for a game?
(don't mind the crick in your neck)

2.) THESE ARE NUTS! But I love them.  Australian artist WBK or works by knight has developed a series of portraits which pay tribute to various individuals whose influence helped change the realities of technology and mass media through out the 20th and 21st centuries. Each portrait is made from keyboard letters!!!!!!!! COME ON!!! DIG IT!!!

3.) So, you know how I wish we had our own alternative energy cars.....well I LOVE this idea too!!! American urban green energy and general electric have teamed up to install the worlds first integrated wind-powered electric vehicle charging station in barcelona. The system implements a 'sanya skypump', an innovative vertical wind tubribine technology paired together with GE's durastation EV charger to provide clean zero-emission energy.

Originally designed for commercial and government application, a series of additional 'sanya skypump' units are projected to be installed throughout the united states in shopping centers and universities later in 2012.
SO AMAZING!!!
(thanks to Design Boom for this one)

4.) I love my loose tea. How about you? Currently I have a robot tea infuser READ ABOUT IT HERE.....But I found another terrific tea steeping device:

You're welcome nerds!!!

5.) "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee". Here is the trailer. I highly recommend this when you need a laugh!!!! Jerry Seinfeld.....has never been funnier! Fun interviews! YOU WILL LOVE IT! Here's a trailer for it:

Ok...and this one is super funny...long - but funny!!

WW81: THE HIRIKO, PIP&POP, AND COLONEL SANDERS

Good Wednesday to you! Thanks for reading my blog!!!!
Let's get right to it. The 5 things that I LOVE this week.

1.) Ok...so this first one is really different. Even for me. But I really like it. So weird and wonderful. Pip & Pop are Australian artists (also known as Nicole Andrijevic and Tanya Schultz) who have a great sence of colour and form in thier work. They combine colored sugar and candy with modeling clay, glitter and other assorted craft supplies creates a highly detailed delectable fantasy world.
(click on the images below to enbiggen them)

Check out thier website HERE or get a copy of their book, I Love That You Love What I Love.

2.) This super little environmentally friendly car is CRAZY!!!! The hiriko folding electric vehicle has been developed as an innovative solution for means of alternative transportation. True, it still needs a bit more work if it wants to appeal to us North Americans.......BUT what a great start!

"The concept automobile bridges the relationship between the city and its inhabitants by accommodating easy and accessible driving solutions within a busy metropolitan area.  In a collaboration between MIT's changing places, denokinn basque center for innovation and afypaida, the design caters to an environment that promotes more social, sustainable and smarter cities. the small commuter car integrates a 20 horsepower electric motor, controlled by a drive-by-wire system, where it achieves a range of 120 km (75 miles) with a top speed of 50 km/h (31 mph). Each wheel contains a separate drive motor, steering, braking, and suspension system, allowing its body to collapse into two separate units for tight parking spaces."

Here is a video of it collapsing to fit into tight spaces!!!! Super cool!

(thanks to DesignBoom for this.....go check them out HERE!!!!!)

3.) This is super fun!!! I love the whimsical direction that the Kansas City Public Library took when designing its library:

This permanent installation is designed to conceal the library’s car park. To select the books, the public were asked to nominate books that they felt represented Kansas City. I think it is a GREAT idea!!!!!!
(Thanks to Cindy via NOTCOT and Deputy Dog)

4.) Ok....so this one is less inspirational than usual.......but I do kinda like them for the irony. But PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE, for the love of all things holy, ONLY wear these socks for the IRONY:

For $5.95 US, you can have that chic-hoser look without all the trouble at Baron Bob!
(Thanks to Dale via Dangerous Minds and Dressed Like Machines)

5.) And for your laugh of the week (as if the sandal socks weren't enough) I give you....this which 2 people have forwarded to me already (thanks Deb and David):
