WW182: LIVIA MARIN, MOVIE PALETTES, and JOAN!

Welcome to Wonderful Wednesday -- here are the 5 things that I want you to LOVE this week!!!

1.) Normally I am not drawn to pottery…..but THESE caught my attention! This is the ceramic work of London-based Chilean artist Livia Marin (from her series titled Nomad Patterns) AH-MAH-ZING!
Here are some of the SPLENDID pieces….

YOU MUST go check out http://liviamarin.com
Great stuff!!!!

2.) Another great reason to go to NYC…..(like I need another reason - am I right??) The Museum of Natural History now has an ADULT sleepover!!!!!

For the first time….."A limited number of 21-years-and-up guests will be able to enjoy a more sophisticated version of the popular event at A Night at the Museum for Grown-Ups, which will feature special guided tours, food, music, drinks, and behind-the-scenes access. The event will last from 6:30 p.m. until 9 a.m. the next morning."

COME ON!!! How fun would this be??
So the first one is done - but I am sure it was a super success and maybe in the future I could do it too!!!
Let's go!

3.) Let's talk colour……you know it is a HUGE part of my life……..But it is a part of all of our lives in SO MANY ways…….these TWO blogs are super interesting….they show you how your favourite movies use colour in scenes….it is AMAZING!
First…..Wes Anderson is miraculous as a film maker, his attention to detail is REMARKABLE…I love how www.wesandersonpalettes.tumblr.com breaks his palette down….

LOVE IT!!! Go to www.wesandersonpalettes.tumblr.com for more more more!!!
If you are looking for non-Wes palettes……try www.moviesincolor.com

SUPER COOL, huh???
(thanks Warren)

4.) Who's hungry???? These are NOT for my veggie friends……but…..www.mackiescrisps.co.uk has some interesting chip flavours!!

Then there is this one…..not too interested in it myself…..but some of you may enjoy them….

Go to Mackiescrisp to learn more!!

ww:79 - DESIGN CRISIS, UNDERWATER ART AND PANCAKES (again)

WELCOM TO WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY!!!
Here are 5 things that I love this week.
Enjoy!
REMEMBER........I would love your suggestions for future #WW posts!!!!

1.) House porn. Yes...that's how I roll. I LOVE the gals at Design Crisis. But here are 2 reasons I love to follow them weekly. ONE - They are funny and smart and have a great eye for design. TWO they have a constant barrage of different decorating ideas each week! So many styles of things that I love...I love the DRAMA in these rooms:
this painted treatment is CRAZY!

What? emerald green cabinetry and leopard carpet? YES PLEASE!

Neutral!!!

COULD YOU IMAGINE?

GOD I LOVE HERRINGBONE (the floor)

Hello, painted Art Nouveau styled wallpaper!

I don't know what is up with me and green. It's not easy!

DONT BE AFRAID OF COLOUR!! LOVE THE CABINET COLOUR!!!
Even decorators get the blues!

I am sure I could get my kitchen to look like this!!
Dreamy? OR NIGHTMARE??? Not too sure!
oh ya......and remember to check them out HERE

2.) Andreas Frank. A neat-o exhibition UNDERWATER! As the story goes, he took a dive down to the Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg, a  United States missile tracking ship that was recently sunk 7 miles off the coast of Key West, Florida in order to create an artificial reef....and whilst there took pictures of the wreck. He then digitally manipulated the photos to create various underwater vignettes. Then.....here is the cool thing.......he staged an exhibition of the photos on the deck of the ship! Divers took in the exhibit in full scuba gear. I am not gonna do it...but it is neat! Check it out:

Here is a video of people viewing the works:

 Neat, huh?

(Thanks to beautifuldecay for this one!)

3.) I know what you are about to say.....REALLY ROB?? ENOUGH WITH THE GD PANCAKES! But here's the thing - I am completely obsessed with them. I LOVE them. Yes....so much that I COULD marry them (if it weren't gonna be awkward with my first husband)!! So usually on Sundays I go out for pancakes....but I really like this idea for pancakes at home. Shelly has made her PANcakes in a muffin pan - adding bacon t some and blueberries to others!!! Check out her other great ideas HERE!

Shelly's Pancake Bites

1/2 cup Multigrain Pancake Mix, dry
1/3 cup Soy Milk (any milk would do)
1/4 cup Torani Sugar Free Caramel Syrup
Assorted Toppings: Cooked Sausage, Crumbled Cooked Bacon, Fruit (I used frozen blueberries but banana slices or apples are yum too)

Mix pancake mix, milk, syrup together till thoroughly combined. Pour batter into a non-stick 12 cup mini muffin tinthat has been sprayed with Pam. Fill about 3/4 way up.

4.) Flip Toronto.  I like this project! I think it is neat-o! (Yes....that is fancy artist talk!)

Eight Toronto-based artists mash-it-up to explore and reveal the city’s transformations, hidden histories and surprises! Flip-Toronto features work by: David Grenier, Aubrey Reeves, Alec Dempster, Cortney Stephenson, Mary Porter,Tania Ursomarzo, Patrick Jenkins, and Lise Beaudry. These Artists were asked to choose a specific neighbourhood or location in the city to explore and portray in their flip-book project. The challenge – how do you tell a story about the city, in only 60 pages, without text and sound? I really like the concept....and here is my fave by Patrick Jenkins:

WW69: A BROOKLYN WATER TOWER, PAPER ART, AND BELLE(ish)!

I had a perky title for this post all ready (because it is my #69 post) but then I realized that I am already being detected as 'spam' and BLOCKED for adult content by the servers at the government......
(true story)
So I decided not to go for the tasteless joke!
Ok...on with it......the 5 things that I LOOOOOVE this week:

1.) My obsession with 'the big apple' doesn't stop at the Brooklyn Bridge. HECK NO! I am in love with many of the super cool stuff happening in Brooklyn! THIS is exceptional......

For his latest project called "Watertower", Brooklyn artist Tom Fruin, has created a monumental water tower sculpture using colorful salvaged plexiglass pieces gathered from all over NYC. Illuminated by the sun during the day and by Ardunio-controlled light sequences designed by Ryan Holsopple at night, this beacon of light is a tribute to the iconic New York water tower and a symbol of the vibrancy of Brooklyn. Watertower opened June 7th, with daily light shows beginning at dusk and continuing to morning.

AM I RIGHT?????? WOWSERS!!!!!!!!
Check out Tom's site for more info: www.tomfruin.com

I WANT TO GO TO THERE!!!

(Thanks to www.gizmodo.com)

2.) So you know that I am all about the paper-art movement right now.....well check out this stop motion video......it will AH-MAH-ZE you.

It is set to the song “Østersøen” by the band Ödland. The animation was directed by Vincent Pianina & Lorenzo Papace.

3.)  Do you have an iPhone or iPad? Do you consider yourself an artist? Would you like to make art WITHOUT all the hassle of actually getting an arts education and being an artist? Check out this app! Yes, you will have to pony up 99 cents for it.....but it is pretty cool!!  The 'popsicolor' iPhone and iPad app by brooklyn-based software company tinrocket transforms photographs into watercolor-like images. An adjustable setting controls the focus and balance of white space, while two rows of colour palettes along the top and bottom of the image let users decide which colours to blend within the imitation watercolor. If the iPhone or iPad is kept face-up and level while 'popsicolor' is at work, the paintings will feature a clean border; otherwise the app adds in mock drips. Like so:

A great time waster!!!

4.) Ok...so this is a product I LOVE.....(thanks to Design Sponge for this one)

So......have you ever been annoyed by the collection of 1/4 gallons of paint in your basement??
Wish there was a simpler way to store a little bit of touch up paint for your home?
Slobproof has a solution....I give you the Slobproof Paint Pen. This handy dandy little guy lets you load up the pen and save it for years in case you need little touch ups here and there. If you’re in the market for something that will help with those little dings, click here to pick up a set of two paint pens for $19.99.
SMART?? NO????

5.) You know I am a bit of a Disneyphile.....well this made me laugh. Stick with it....it is the WHOLE song......and there are some funny cameos at the end of it.......
HERE IS THE ORIGINAL:
Here is the "UPDATED" (aka funny) version:

****SPECIAL THANKS TO Josephine Cleo for this one!!!!
